Chambray and Coral

Hello!
Today has been a great day, I hope yours has, too!

Last weekend I went shopping with my mom! I got a lot of things and thrifted more too!
Yes, I'm blogging at 3AM...I'm trying to get ahead on some of Friday's work.
Crazy, no?

Anyways, because it's so late, I'll be getting back to you on my new thrifted finds, but for now, I wanted to show you what I wore today!
I am in love with chambray and for the longest I have been looking for coral pants that are a light and soft material.
Guess what?
Both of those things are what I wore Wednesday, March 7.
Exciting, right?
I was so excited to wear my outfit.
Anywho, here it is!

Yeah, just ignore the weird faces I'm making. Just check out the outfit!

Box Braids, Anyone?

Hello!
I hope you all have had a great week.
Is anyone as excited as I am that it's Thursday? I only have one class and then my wonderful mentee and I are going to hang out! Good day to me!

I have a question:
Feel free to answer it for me!

Does anyone love box braids as much as I do?
I'm getting them in about a week and I've had them many times before. I'm SUPER excited.
Because of my excitement, I felt the need to post some picture to Pinterest. Here are some that I love!
What do you think? Which ones are your fave?
I especially love Solange's braids, and we can't for get how well Brandy wears them!
 It's getting past my bedtime.
Thanks for stopping by!
Good night!

"Bikini season is coming whether your butt is ready or not!"

This post has multiple parts to it...I've been losing weight since June of last year and it's been going well...except now my weight is at a stand still. I'll exercise and then end up eating something that sets me a few steps back. I feel like in the beginning of my weight loss I was so excited and fervent but now I'm feeling slow. I'm in the last stretch of my weight loss; only a couple of target areas to go but I keep procrastinating! My self discipline seems to be waning and I don't know what to do about it..I'm sure there's an easy response to that: GET A GRIP! I haven't even checked my weight in about 2 weeks. I'm pretty afraid to do that but maybe it's what's best for me so I can figure out a way to be happy with myself. I've been working out everyday but what I eat exceeds my exercise. Ah, well, I'll get it straight, because I know what I want to look like by March, and it's not how I look now!!

Now, enough of my venting. It's time to get down to what I've been doing with my life!

Remember this skirt?

Well, I wanted to wear it as a maxi skirt but something just wasn't fitting with this particular style.

When in doubt, bring the scissors out!
I also made a double hem and used an iron to flatten the fabric.

Hem, Hem, Hem!!!
Here's the finished look!

Oh! Let's not forget about my weekend. I went to the mall with my mother and look what I found!
High-Waisted trouser: $5!!! GAP!

Look at that price tag before the clearance!

Such a fabulous find.
Thank you for listening!
How was your weekend? Did you get any great thrift-tastic finds?
Thanks again, XOXO

Try a little sunshine and denim.

Hello, all! Doing my blog a little earlier in the day today. I'm super excited about my thrift finds. I decided to fill you in on life right now, especially when it comes to the weather and my outfits! It's been in the 60s today and it's awesome. I know it's January, but one of the perks to living in the South is that there are random days of warm weather...and I must say, I enjoy it. Remember the denim jacket that I thrifted this past weekend? Well I've been wearing the heck out of it! I'm so excited to make it a fashionable staple to my outfits. There's a maxi dress that I have at home that I plan to take in and wear! I got it from a boutique...too expensive for my tastes but I bought it with a gift card, so no worries.
Today has been a really good day. I read Emma, by Jane Austen for my Interim class. We started watching David Copperfield-such a good movie.
Anyway, what did I wear? I haven't started any DIY projects for the week but I do have one in mind...you'll know when it happens. Today, I kept it simple but oh, so comfy.

GAP denim jacket: thrifted, Hanes v-neck, Hush Puppies shoes: thrifted, bag: thrifted.
View from my apartment window!
I'd love for it to never get cold! :) Let's see how long this thing lasts...
I'm super excited. I don't have to work tonight so I am going to Zumba and Belly-dancing classes at my gym! It shall be fun! Let's see if this girl's still got rhythm.
Have a great day!

Thrift and Dye like there's no tomorrow!

Can you believe how quickly the weekend has gone by? Me either. I don't like to rush my life but I would be lying if I said that I wasn't ready for Friday. This weekend has been fully of thrifting and crafting. Friday, I didn't do too much, I just relaxed and enjoyed the evening with Lamont. We had Digiorno and seasoned fries. It was delicious! To be honest, this has probably been the most lazy weekend that I've had in quite some time and it was so nice. Lamont and I went to so many stores yesterday. I got the notion to buy men's white v-necks and to dye one pink! This is only the beginning of a creative weekend. Hope you're ready!

I followed the instructions on the Tulip Dye packet and soaked mixed all of the ingredients together:

So excited!

Rinse in cold water. Wash in warm water. I decided to hang it to dry.
This is my outfit for tomorrow! I figured I'd try it on to see how it would look:
shirt: crafted, ring: local boutique, leggings: gifted boots: Target, jacket: thrifted
I'd say this outfit was a success! Yay!

I also did some shopping! I came back with lots of different things...I did some thrifting, which was a rewarding experience! I went to Goodwill and got two skirts for $1 total! One, I plan to shorten and wear with tights. Here's a picture of the other:
Not quite sure what shoes I'll wear with it...If it's warm, most likely sandals... ;D

I also got this dress from Rue 21 for $4!

I was probably scolding my photographer! :)

I'll probably either lengthen this dress or wear leggings underneath...I never realized how short the dress was! Maybe I'm just extra tall. ;)
I found more treasures while out and about but I'll have to show you those later! :) Thanks for reading! Have a great night!

Playing Catch Up

It's been nearly two weeks since I have posted anything on this blog and for that I am ashamed! Interim has been amazing, I've been reading Jane Austen (Pride and Prejudice and Emma) and I'm enjoying relaxing and working! Anyways, each Saturday, I've personally made it an unspoken rule that I do some kind of craft/refashion project. I love doing crafts and sewing any other day but Saturdays are the days that I have the most time! This post will mostly be about me catching you up on what I've been doing with some of my time. I hope you're prepared!

I love scarves. Because I love scarves, I love making them and giving them away! My awesome roomie, Brittany gave me a Snuggie for Christmas so I figured I'd give her an animal print infinity scarf! These pics will show how I made the scarf, and the final pics will show what Brittany's scarf turned out. I got this tutorial from Sweet Verbena-Infinity Scarf and wanted to use my own kind of fabric.
I took two rectangles of fabric measuring 18"x45".
Pin and sew the 45" edges
I then sewed the 18" edges together (insides together) until I ran out of room and had  to sew the exterior of the edges. (That sounded kind of confusing. Sorry for that)
Here's how my scarf looked!
I loved it!

I did the same thing with Brittany's gift, except because of the sheer and light material, I had to double up on the animal print. To add a creative touch, I put a button on it.
She loved it!
I plan to make another one of these scarves in the near future except I may make it a little longer (about 18"x60") and make it a multi-loop scarf! :)

Another project that I spent time doing was a mirror that I saw from Pinterest! I have been at school for months in the apartment and have yet to buy a mirror for my room! That could prove tragic for looking at my whole outfit before class. I decided to get one last week and decorate it. I bought rose petals from Wal-Mart, the mirror from Target, a ribbon that I had lying around, and letters from the NYT newspaper. Let's get crafty!
My boyfriend/special helper!
Hot glue, anyone?
Making letters!
It was somewhat time consuming, but I was able to hot glue 2 layers of petals on the mirror, make a bow with my ribbon, and add "LOVE" in newspaper to the mirror. I love it!

I used mounting tape to put my mirror on my wall! These mirrors, although inexpensive are awesome for creative endeavors. My friend, Leena, and I also call these mirrors "Confidence Mirrors" because they definitely help boost your confidence and magically give you a long and slender figure! LOVE!

Today, Sunday, Lamont and I met up in Greenville with my brother and his wife! It was a fun and fantastic day and an awesome way to spend a beautiful Sunday. Here are some pics, hope you like them!

It was a great day! We ate at a really delicious restaurant downtown and went to my sister-in-law's orchestra concert. We had gelato for dessert. And now Lamont and I are sitting here, awaiting MLK day and all that goes with that (I'm doing volunteer work!) Hope you had a great weekend, talk to you soon!
